Abstract Paintings in Oil

A variety of experiences, memories and an interest in the powerful unseen levels of the subconscious combine as starting points for my work, I offer an emotional exploration inspired by elation and inner strength. Chaos, instinct and control come together with an expressive use of oils in a wet in wet technique which allows me to conjure a dramatic sense of energy and movement in abstract form.

I endeavour to encapsulate mood and emotional elation in dramatic sweeps of bold colour and texture inviting the viewer to recognise, interpret and possibly experience personal exhilaration on their own terms.

Landscape Paintings in Oil

My landscapes evolve from childhood memories of immense panoramic skies on the coast where I lived as a young child. 

Without visible or specific imagery to work from I develop an abstract memory of what I saw then for a fleeting second, the sizzling stillness and silence of a summers day, rolling constant clouds and the infinity of the horizon fading into the distance.

Structure and the physical use of oil paint are important factors in my work where I create a series of problems which I resolve one by one, during this process I make discoveries which are juxtaposed between experience and experimentation where the imagination can be allowed to run wild and free, eventually allowing the work to take on it’s own personality and ultimately dictate it’s own resolution.
